Reflection
- (Gen 1:6) And God said, “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.”
- (Gen 1:7) And God made the expanse and separated the waters that were under the expanse from the waters that were above the expanse. And it was so.
- (Gen 1:8) And God called the expanse Heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, the second day.
Discussion
If Jesus is indeed God, He must have all the attributes of God. Jesus must be all-knowing. Jesus must be all-powerful. Just must be omnipresent. He must be unchanging. He must be eternal. If these are not true, He is less than the sovereign God over all creation and not worthy of all praise.
Jesus being eternal is central to the creation story. While we have a beginning – birth – and an ending – death, Jesus does not. This can be hard to process because everything else we know has a beginning – even the earth itself. Everything else we know will also have an ending – even our universe.
Jesus is eternal. He has always been and He will always be forever. Nothing made Him and nothing will destroy Him. So when our faith is placed in Christ we trust the creator and sustainer who upholds all things. He cannot fail.

Expansion
Jesus Christ is the Son of God, the second member of the Trinity. He is co-equal with God the Father and the Holy Spirit in all power, authority, and dominion in the universe. He was co-creator and rules over all creation from heaven. Jesus existed before the world began. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit in the womb of the virgin Mary. Jesus lived a sinless life and is the only sacrifice for our sins, dying on the cross, and defeating death forever. He rose from the grave to return to heaven where He sits today. Because of His perfect sacrifice we have eternal life as heirs of God. He will return to restore His kingdom and judge all people according to the will of God.
