Reflection
- (Gen 1:14 ESV) And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years,
- (Gen 1:15 ESV) and let them be lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth.” And it was so.
- (Gen 1:16 ESV) And God made the two great lights–the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night–and the stars.
- (Gen 1:17 ESV) And God set them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth,
- (Gen 1:18 ESV) to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.
- (Gen 1:19 ESV) And there was evening and there was morning, the fourth day.
Discussion
Consider the vastness of the universe. It is estimated that 400 new stars appear every single day. We know from the creation account that those stars have always been there, it is that man has just been able to see or measure them. There are most stars than we can count with estimates currently in the septillions. That is five levels up from a billion!
In the Genesis account of creation it seems almost like a passing mention of these stars being created. Look at the tail end of verse 16: “and the stars”
Connection
What can we learn from such a passing mention or something so vast as the stars in our universe?
Consider the accomplishments of man to travel in space. We have walked on the moon, but been no further. We have probed parts of our solar system, but been no further. In an instant, God made the entire expanse of stars end to end. What does this say about the greatness of our God?
When you look out at the night sky, what thoughts of God enter your mind?
Expansion
God the Father has eternally existed in the past and will eternally exist forever in the future. He alone is the sovereign creator and supreme ruler of everything. He is unchanging, omnipresent, omnipotent, omniscient and entirely holy in every capacity.
