Family Devotional 3: Week of: November 29

Reflection

Sunday Text: Jude verses 5-7

5 Now I want to remind you, although you once fully knew it, that Jesus, who saved a people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed those who did not believe.

6 And the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day–

7 just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.

Discussion

Jude refers to the people saved out of Egypt.  We know those people to be the ______________________.  We see in Exodus that they are not saved by their exceptional ______________________, but rather by God’s love.  This is the first example Jude gives of God’s judgement on ______________________.

Next, Jude refers to a group of ______________________ who left their assignments to pursue ______________________ (Genesis 6).  They are forever locked in ______________________ and ______________________ for their disobedience.

Third, Jude refers to the people of ______________________ and ______________________ who gave up the plan God had for people and pursued ______________________ desires (Genesis 19).  Those entire areas were consumed with ______________________ rained down from ______________________.

Connection

Principle: Promoting the community

In Hebrews 10:23-25 we are called as the people of God to:

  1. ______________________
  2. ______________________
  3. ______________________
  4. ______________________

How can your family hold fast to the “confession of our hope without wavering” in your daily routine? (Hebrews 10:23)

How can your family “stir up one another to love and good works” when faced with the temptations of the world? (Hebrews 10:24)

How can your family “not neglect meeting together” when life gets busier and busier? (Hebrews 10:25)

How can your family “encourage one another” in the community to know God and make Him known? (Hebrews 10:25)
