Family Devotional 6: Week of: December 20

Reflection

Sunday Text: Jude verses 14-16

14 It was also about these that Enoch, the seventh from Adam, prophesied, saying, “Behold, the Lord comes with ten thousands of his holy ones,

15 to execute judgment on all and to convict all the ungodly of all their deeds of ungodliness that they have committed in such an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things that ungodly sinners have spoken against him.”

16 These are grumblers, malcontents, following their own sinful desires; they are loud-mouthed boasters, showing favoritism to gain advantage.

Discussion

Jude introduces to an Old Testament character named ____________________.  Enoch did not experience death, but was taken by ____________________.  Hebrews 11:5 says this was by ____________________.  The next verse in Hebrews says that without faith it is impossible for us to ____________________ God.  We must believe that ____________________ exists and that He rewards those that seek Him.  Hebrews 11:1 defines faith: Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.  Ephesians 2:8-10 connects the dots with our belief, our ____________________ in God and our salvation in Jesus Christ.  We are saved by God’s ____________________ ____________________ of grace through our ____________________ in Him.  All of this is a gift from ____________________.

Connection

Principle: Prioritizing the Word

God has given us His word so we can know who He is and how He works.  How can your family use Scripture daily to build up your belief in God?

How has learning what the Bible says impacted your life in the past?

Faith is believing in what we hope for, but cannot see.  What are other things that you might believe in even though you cannot see them?

How can your family seek to trust God even when you don’t understand everything that He is up to?

We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus.  In that statement there are three of the 5 Solas:

  1. Saved by grace alone: Sola Gratia
  2. Through faith alone: Sola Fide
  3. In Christ alone: Solus Christus
  4. According to Scripture alone: Sola Scriptura
  5. For the glory of God alone: Soli Deo Gloria.

Take some time this week to reflect on how those five points build up your belief in God and trust in His will.
