1 Timothy 2:1-8

  • (1Ti 2:1 ESV) First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people,
    • I __________ that – Paul is urging Timothy and the church at Ephesus to be in prayer.  This extends to us today and we have the example of Jesus recorded in Matthew 6:5-13 & Luke 11:1-4

      • We should be expressing our desires to God then submitting to His sovereign will. Luke 22:39-44

    • Thanksgiving – Giving God thanks for all __________ has done, is doing, and will do. Matthew 6:10, 12; Luke 11:2b, 4a
    • Philippians 4:6 lists the same words on prayer.
      • Do not be anxious about anything.
      • But in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
  • (1Ti 2:2 ESV) for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.
    • Titus 1:1-3, 1 Peter 2:13-17, Matthew 5:44-45
    • Kings and __________ who are in high positions – we are called to prayer for all leaders top to bottom.
    • Peaceful – Stillness – free from outside __________.
    • Quiet – Tranquil – 1 Peter 3:3-4 – free of internal __________.
  • (1Ti 2:3 ESV) This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior,
  • (1Ti 2:4 ESV) who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
    • What is good?

      • Humbling ourselves to His __________.

  • (1Ti 2:5 ESV) For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,

    • Both executing judgement and by His grace saving His __________.
  • (1Ti 2:6 ESV) who gave himself as a ransom for all, which is the testimony given at the proper time.

  • (1Ti 2:7 ESV) For this I was appointed a preacher and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
