Reflection

  • (1Ti 4:1 ESV) Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons,
  • (1Ti 4:2 ESV) through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared,
  • (1Ti 4:3 ESV) who forbid marriage and require abstinence from foods that God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.
  • (1Ti 4:4 ESV) For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving,
  • (1Ti 4:5 ESV) for it is made holy by the word of God and prayer.

Discussion

“Fake news” is a buzz word for us in recent history.  It used to be that a news agency would present the facts allowing the audience to draw their own conclusion.  It seems all too often now that the opinion is presented while the facts are deemed less important.  This makes us lose trust in what we see and hear leading to an utter rejection of the story entirely.

Christian teaching should be different.  Each one of us can go to the source of ultimate truth and read the facts for ourselves.  The Word of God, like God Himself, does not change.  The facts are the same eternally.  That leaves the only variable to be my mind and your mind as we seek to understand the Scriptures.

Teachers in a Christian church should be dedicated to the truth of the Bible in all things.  Neglecting portions that are controversial or changing sections we don’t like is to deny the sovereignty of God is our lives.

Connection

How can your family know the truth of Scripture?

What would enable to you detect false teaching about God?

What is your proper response when you encounter a “Chrisian teacher” who is teaching things counter to the Word of God?

1Thesselonians 2:13 And we also thank God constantly for this, that when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men but as what it really is, the word of God, which is at work in you believers.

Expansion

The Bible is the inspired Word of God given to His people and revealed by the Holy Spirit.  It is complete and without error in its content and given to individual believers with the intent of instructing them in who God is and transforming their lives according to His will.
