Reflection

  • (1Ti 6:1 ESV) Let all who are under a yoke as bondservants regard their own masters as worthy of all honor, so that the name of God and the teaching may not be reviled.
  • (1Ti 6:2 ESV) Those who have believing masters must not be disrespectful on the ground that they are brothers; rather they must serve all the better since those who benefit by their good service are believers and beloved. Teach and urge these things.
  • (1Ti 6:3 ESV) If anyone teaches a different doctrine and does not agree with the sound words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the teaching that accords with godliness,
  • (1Ti 6:4 ESV) he is puffed up with conceit and understands nothing. He has an unhealthy craving for controversy and for quarrels about words, which produce envy, dissension, slander, evil suspicions,
  • (1Ti 6:5 ESV) and constant friction among people who are depraved in mind and deprived of the truth, imagining that godliness is a means of gain.

Discussion

Honoring the Word and the will of God is paramount to the Christian.  We are called to lives honoring God in His time and place.  We should seek contentment in that calling, not fight against it.

In that fight we can quickly find ourselves pushing against the Bible, the Word of God, to suit our own desires.  That must be stopped and avoided by the church completely.

The Bible is the inspired Word of God given to His people and revealed by the Holy Spirit.  It is complete and without error in its content and given to individual believers with the intent of instructing them in who God is and transforming their lives according to His will.

Exodus 24:4, 1 Thes 2:13,2 Peter 1:19-21, John 17:13-17, 1 Cor 2:7-15, 1 John 2:20, John 16:12-13, Deuteronomy 4:2, Ps 19:7, Isa 40:8, Matthew 24:35, Luke 21:33, John 10:35, Matthew 5:18, Luke 24:44, Exodus 24:7, Deuteronomy 4:1, Ps 119:9-16, Acts 17:11, 2 Timothy 3:14-17, Hebrews 4:12, Matthew 5:19, Romans 15:4, Colossians 3:16, Romans 16:25-27

Connection

How can you put away malice?

How can you put away deceit?

How can you put away hypocrisy?

How can you put away envy?

How can you put away slander?

All of these are fulfilled when we feed ourselves on the Word of God.  Like a newborn infant, give me a longing for the pure spiritual milk. That by it I may grow up into salvation. Help me this week to taste that the Lord is good.
