Reflection

  • (1Ti 6:11 ESV) But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness.

  • (1Ti 6:12 ESV) Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

  • (1Ti 6:13 ESV) I charge you in the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who in his testimony before Pontius Pilate made the good confession,

  • (1Ti 6:14 ESV) to keep the commandment unstained and free from reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ,

Discussion

Steadfastness is staying the course no matter what comes.  In life we are promised trouble but in Christ we are also promised a victory for eternity with God.  Keeping that in mind is important daily as we move through this life.  It is very easy for us to get sidetracked and chase after things that are not pleasing to God.  Instead, we are urged to stay the course.  Flee from the passing follies of this world and pursue the things of God.

To do this we must remain steadfast with a focus on the task at hand.  We look to Christ who came as the prime example of our faith to show us how to live in this world until He returns.

Connection

When you hear the word entangles, what comes to mind?

When you think of an Olympic race with runners on the track, what do you think is on the mind of those runners during the race?

How can we keep the kind of focus as we walk through our lives on this earth?

What is one thing that always seems to knock you down a peg in your race of the faith?

Hebrews 12:1-2

1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

Make that your prayer this week

To lay aside every weight and sin

To run with endurance the race of the faith

Keeping our focus on Jesus

Who gave all for us

That we might surrender all to Him
