Reflection

  • (1Ti 6:15 ESV) which he will display at the proper time–he who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords,
  • (1Ti 6:16 ESV) who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen.

Discussion

Understanding the nature of God takes a measure of faith.  We are sinful creatures living in a fallen world.  To comprehend complete holiness and perfection in God is something that might escape our grasp at times.  God is unlike us in His power, authority, and control of the universe.  He is completely holy in every way and entirely unchanging in His will.  Because of the disparity in our fallenness and His holiness we cannot enter into God’s presence without being transformed.

When we begin to recognize the holiness of God we cannot help but also recognize how unholy our lives are.  As we see more of His perfection, we see more of our imperfection.  As we see more of His righteousness, we see more of our unrighteousness and the need we have of Christ’s work in our lives to make us new.

The truth is, we need a Savior.  We cannot ever make ourselves good enough so Jesus came to do that for His people.  He came to transform us to be the people God calls us to be.

For this we praise His name who gave His perfect life in order to pay our debt and redeem us back to a right place in the family of God.  He will return again to restore His kingdom according to the plan of God where we, His people, will enjoy eternity with Him forever.

Connection

Isaiah 6:1-8 reads:

  • (Isa 6:1 ESV) In the year that King Uzziah died I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple.
  • (Isa 6:2 ESV) Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.
  • (Isa 6:3 ESV) And one called to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!”
  • (Isa 6:4 ESV) And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke.
  • (Isa 6:5 ESV) And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts!”
  • (Isa 6:6 ESV) Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar.
  • (Isa 6:7 ESV) And he touched my mouth and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.”
  • (Isa 6:8 ESV) And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.”

How can you seek to

  • See the majesty of God?
  • See the glory of God?
  • Be purified for the presence of God?
  • We used as the servant of God?

“Here and I, God.  Send me.”
