Reflection
(1Ti 6:17 ESV) As for the rich in this present age, charge them not to be haughty, nor to set their hopes on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, who richly provides us with everything to enjoy.
(1Ti 6:18 ESV) They are to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share,
(1Ti 6:19 ESV) thus storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of that which is truly life.
Discussion
We must keep in mind that all the things in our lives are sourced ultimately from God. He is the creator and sustainer of the universe. Without His work in these things, everything falls apart. Moreover, He gives us things to be enjoyed in Him. When we properly recognize the source as God and the purpose of everything around us to glorify Him, we cannot help but enjoy the majesty.

One major charge on the life of the Christian is to be mindful in using the resources we have for the purposes of God. If all of this came from Him and is for His glory, we are to use it accordingly for His work – not for our pleasure only. This is true if we are blessed with little or with much in the way of earthly resources. If you are given the opportunity to manage a pile of money, use it for the glory of God building up His kingdom.

Colossians 3:23-24 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.

Connection
What is one way you can use what God has given you for His work?

What are three areas of your life that you are prone to selfishness:

How does sin hinder your ability to fully live for Christ?

Knowing that God gives all things according to His will and for the return of His glory, how can you try to live content in the life He has given you?
