Reflection

  • Read again Luke chapter 3 and Matthew chapter 1.

Discussion

Jesus has a very human set of ancestors with lots of stories to tell.  It is more in our nature to tell of the good parts and more or less skip over the bad parts, right.  Consider the main content you see on social media.  It is all the highlights and little to no low points, right?  And… if you find that friend who is only negative on social media the response is to unfollow them isn’t it?

In the story of Jesus’ ancestors we get all the sides.  The good like Boaz and Josiah along with the bad like Manasseh and Jechonia.  We even have the unmentionables like Tamar & Judah, David & Bathsheba, not to mention Rahab.

Connection

What does it say of the validity of the Bible to show all sides of this sorted past instead of hiding them?

How does this related to our own families and the dumpster fire we sometimes find ourselves in?

What should we glean from the way God uses these people even with all their imperfections?

How is God using you today despite any history in your life or lineage?

Expansion

The Bible is the inspired Word of God given to His people and revealed by the Holy Spirit.  It is complete and without error in its content and given to individual believers with the intent of instructing them in who God is and transforming their lives according to His will.
