Devotional: Colossians 3:1-4
Reflection
Colossians 3:1-4
- (Col 3:1 ESV) If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
- (Col 3:2 ESV) Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.
- (Col 3:3 ESV) For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.
- (Col 3:4 ESV) When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory.
Discussion
A common question in our house is, “Are you making this better or worse?” Usually that is in light of one child attempting to “parent” another child, which never goes as the one has planned. While it might be easier to look at those situations from the outside and see the folly, the same question is something I need to as of myself often.
Am I making this situation better or worse? If worse, what do I need to change to bring betterment?
Am I making myself better or worse? It worse, what do I need to change to make things better?
As the church, we are the redeemed people of God called to His name and promised His eternity. In light of that we are to focus our mind on the greater things, the heavenly things – not the things of the earth. Everything here will pass away sooner or later. God’s people are called to be heavenly minded then where our eternal future rests.

The Church Family
The church is both the universal and local people called by the Holy Spirit and redeemed by Jesus alone. Our citizenship is secure in heaven and our devotion on earth is the work of God. We are baptized into His body and led by men called of God to the roles of elders and deacons with the purposes of fellowship, worship, discipleship, evangelism, and ministry.
