Sunday Notes: Songs of Christmas: Elizabeth’s Song Luke 1:39-45

  • (Luk 1:39 ESV) In those days ___________ arose and went with haste into the hill country, to a town in ___________,
    • In what days is this?  What happens before and after?

  • Luke 1:24-39
    • ___________ is 6 months pregnant with JTB
    • The angel ___________ visits Mary and she leaves quickly to go see Elizabeth.
      • To validate the statements from the angel and also to see the this miracle in the lives of ___________ and Elizabeth
    • Mary’s journey would have been 50-90 miles
    • She seemly has no ___________ of what might happen to her on this journey
      • Both the travel to Elizabeth
      • And the chapter of bearing the Messiah.
      • She calls herself Doule
        • Literally this translates to female ___________
  • (Luk 1:40 ESV) and she entered the ___________ of Zechariah and ___________ Elizabeth.
    • There is another reason she went to Elizabeth
      • We know the confirmation of what the ___________ says is part of it
    • Also, if there is anyone who can ___________ to Mary at this time it has to be Elizabeth.
      • Who is your Elizabeth?
  • (Luk 1:41 ESV) And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the ___________ leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the ___________ ___________,
    • John the Baptist – the ___________ infant
      • Leaped at the proximity to the barely conceived ___________
    • But there is no indication that Mary has said anything about being ___________
      • Remember, she is maybe a week or two into this deal.
    • This is JTB’s first ___________ effort
      • He is praising the Messiah before he is born
        • By the power of the ___________ ___________
        • Nothing is ___________ for God.
    • And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit
      • Luke 1:67  – Zechariah was filled with the Spirit
      • Luke 1:15 – So was JTB  – even from his mothers womb 
      • The idea here is to be controlled by the HS
        • The very Spirit of the ___________ God eternal controlling one’s life today
          • Speech
          • Movement
          • Words
        • We are called to be filled with the HS as well.
          • Ephesians 5:17-21, Acts 6:1-4, Colossians 3:1-4
  • (Luk 1:42 ESV) and she exclaimed with a loud cry, “___________ are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your ___________!
    • She exclaimed with a loud cry.
      • Have you ever burst out in praise?
      • This to ___________ with praises
      • Recognizing the ___________ of God
    • We have to recognize here the massive realization of Elizabeth in this scene
      • She is already amped with the coming birth of her son
        • A miraculous gift of God for her
          • And for her people, Israel
      • Now she realizes too 
        • That her ___________ is the tip of the iceberg
        • That ___________ will follow who is greater than all
        • The Lord Himself incarnate
          • God come to earth in the form of a man
          • To ___________ His people.

  • (Luk 1:43 ESV) And why is this ___________ to me that the mother of my ___________ should come to me?
    • Look at the humility of Elizabeth here
      • I am not worthy of this honor
        • That the Lord be present in my house
      • It recons that of Hannan, Ruth, Paul
        • 1 Samuel 2:1-3, Ruth 2:10, Philippians 3:3-9
      • And illustrates the way we each should live
        • Philipians 2:3-11
  • (Luk 1:44 ESV) For behold, when the ___________ of your greeting came to my ears, the ___________ in my womb leaped for j___________oy.
    • This needs emphasis: BEHOLD!
    • That the baby in her womb leapt for joy
      • JTB – 6 months along
        • Not viable by any standard on his own
        • Not even considered a human by our culture
        • Praising ___________
        • Recognizing the ___________ of the Messiah
        • Making his first ___________ announcement of the Savior
  • (Luk 1:45 ESV) And blessed is she who ___________ that there would be a ___________ of what was spoken to her from the Lord.”
    • Do you have that belief?
      • That faith?
        • Trusting God in all things
          • Regardless of the world around us?
        • Praising God in all things
          • Regardless of the circumstances of the moment?
    • So who do you fear?
      • The God who is over all things including your very life?
      • Or people who are feeble, sinful, and destined to destruction?
    • ___________ is an incredible marker of the Christian.
      • When the world says:
        • Do more, Get more, Be more, Have more
      • The people of God should seek humility
      • They should lift God in praise
        • Humility leads to our right place before God
          • From which we recognize His greatness
          • And we praise Him for in
          • In fear
          • And in awe of who He is and what He does.
