Sunday Notes: James 4:1-12

  • (Jas 4:1 ESV) What causes ____________ and what causes ____________ among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you?

      • The way we spend what we have now is probably a good indicator of how we would spend more.
  • (Jas 4:4 ESV) You adulterous ____________! Do you not know that friendship with the world is ____________ with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an ____________ of God.

      • It should be a reset point for us.

    • To submit is to put yourself under the authority of someone else.
      • Like a soldier
      • Like a citizen of a government.
    • Resist the devil
      • This is the opposite of submitting.
      • It is to stand up against.
        • 1 Peter 5:8-9
  • (Jas 4:8 ESV) Draw near to ____________, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your ____________, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
    • The idea here is a joining together
      • You draw near to God
      • God draws near to you
    • Two related pieces here
      • The ____________ are external
      • The heart is ____________

    • Wretched – Miserable, ____________
      • This word only appears here in the NT
        • This is how we feel over the ____________ state we are in
        • Whether our own sin
        • Or that of those around us
