This week we look at day four with the creation of the sun, moon, and stars. Don’t miss the magnitude of God’s creation in these things that we can barely seem to measure yet God speaks them into existence in an instant. In a Word, God calls from nothing to create the sun to govern the day, the moon to govern the night, and the host of all the stars we cannot even count. These heavenly bodies are not gods themselves, but creations under the rule of our one true God. He gives them to creation with specific functions to order His creation.
- (Gen 1:14 ESV) And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years,
- (Gen 1:15 ESV) and let them be lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth.” And it was so.
- (Gen 1:16 ESV) And God made the two great lights–the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night–and the stars.
- (Gen 1:17 ESV) And God set them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth,
- (Gen 1:18 ESV) to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.
- (Gen 1:19 ESV) And there was evening and there was morning, the fourth day.
